A picture is worth a thousand words

I didn't excel at art when I was in School. But I'd like to think that skiing is an art form and one that I've adopted over time as my way of expressing myself. Thanks to Nadine for taking these photos of me and showing the simplicity behind a few turns in deep snow. Skiing … Continue reading A picture is worth a thousand words

Bel Oiseau

Ski touring in November is always a win. For us young ones, consistent skiing in November hasn't really been a feature in our winter seasons so anything we do ski is always a bonus. With no lifts running until December, we had no choice but to continue our fine November ski touring tradition involving cold, … Continue reading Bel Oiseau

Freeride on Col du Passon

After a few casual laps of the lifts at Grands Montets, Seth and I decided to hunt for some better snow on the Col du Passon. The snow was typically skied out in Grands Montets in a matter of minutes. The approach to the Col du Passon is popular this time of year because its … Continue reading Freeride on Col du Passon

Traverse of Col du Tacul: Capucin NE couloir

After the usual evening chatter discussing what to ski the next day, a few routes had been thrown in the hat. The col du Tacul, particularly the traverse of the col du Tacul ending with the Capucin couloir gained most interest. 8:00 at the Aiguille du Midi the following morning, Fergus, Barney and myself took our place in … Continue reading Traverse of Col du Tacul: Capucin NE couloir

couloir rectiligne

Rectiligne and l’ENSA couloirs

Not all days in the mountains are clear blue skies. On this day we skied two couloirs, the Rectiligne on the Pas de chèvre from Grands Montets and couloir l'ENSA from Brevent. Two easily accessible and highly enjoyable couloirs made for a great day of skiing. Thanks Oli and Fergus for the day.

couloir cosmiques

Walk down the exposed Aiguille du midi arête at 3842m, high above Chamonix. Ski round to the right. Tie two 30m ropes together and down you go. Into the relatively unknown. The conditions look good from the top, but who knows? Dropping over rocks that guard the entrance to this 800m long couloir, which sustains between 45-50 … Continue reading couloir cosmiques
