Aiguille de L’Encrenaz, NE Couloir

Aiguille de L’Encrenaz, NE couloir, Aiguilles Rouges 5.2 E3

From Lac Blanc climb the slopes SE of the Chamois / Perseverance / Encrenaz and head up the middle S facing couloir between Breche Martin / Encrenaz. At the top of the couloir aim right and then descend into the North East couloir. First part is around 50 ° for 50m, followed by a rappel of just under 30m. Then the couloir widens at 45 °.  Join the valley of the Encrenaz until the Col des Montets/Le Buet. This line kept the snow really well over a week after the last snowfall. It’s in the shade for pretty much the whole day and isn’t regularly skied due to its popular neighbours the Beugeant and Belvedere.

Thanks to Seth and Tom for the adventure. This is a really cool line and one that I’ll definitely be returning to, especially after hearing from Joel Evans that the original line goes skiers left of the rappel and doesn’t require any rappels in good conditions.

Photos by Seth Adams, you should really get to know his work.
