Col du Trident

IMG_0855

Ben Finlay and I had planned to go for Spencer Couloir on Aiguille de Blaitière but missed out on first Midi bins so we decided to go exploring towards Tour Ronde instead on what was a nice bluebird day. ‘A day in the mountains’ as we called it.

By the time we got up and started skinning the day was in full swing so we didn’t have heaps of time to ski anything big and committing, like Gervasutti on Tour Ronde. Instead we skinned past the aesthetic couloir to the end of the basin and aimed for Col du Trident which looked like it would ski well. We spent the whole skin up picking out lines in this incredible basin. We skinned to the bergshrund and had planned to squeeze lookers left passed the big ice block but the snow above the crux looked nasty; a very thin layer on sheet ice. We turned back and got a few cold fresh powder turns in before heading down the Italian vallee blanche to cap of a nice day exploring an area of the Mont Blanc massif I’d never seen before. We’ll be back.

Thanks for the day Ben.
